About me

Hello, my name is Erika. Born in Amsterdam I moved to Hilversum at the age of ten. I attended the local gymnasium and left my hometown to study fysics at Delft University of Technology when I was nineteen. Eight months later I knew the chance of a happy ending would be minimal. So It seemed best to switch to my equal best ambition: Dutch language and literature.

I became a student at our oldest University in Leiden. According to my family I mastered all the local accents of the places I have lived. This illustrates my social adaptability and it might even reflect my sensitivity for music in the tone of voice and other prosodic features.

My master thesis concerned the characteristics to be distinguished of a classic orator and a modern debater. Ethos, logos, pathos.

Subsequently I was reunited with Delft University but this time as a project member developing courseware about technical writing for ingeneers. Thereafter I worked at the agricultural college in Delft as a multimedia developer and at several educational publishers as a freelance scriptwriter.

After more than 25 years of deepening various linguistics topics, writing and editorial skills as well as educational knowledge and experience, it felt the right moment to build my own business. “Neerlanderika, language in progress” was born on february 7th in 2017.

Besides my professional skills I truly love people and music. A message does not always have to contain words, an image does not always have to be drawn by lines and colors. Music is an international language. Sounds create images as well as memories, including emotions and tangible athmospheres. I use to play the clarinet in a diversification of line-ups. Making music resembles communicating in a way. Passion and profession do flow together here reinforcing eachother.
